2011 buick enclave review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The seats are comfortable, and it can be ordered with a second-row bench seat or luxurious captain's chairs, depending on whether seven- or eight-passenger capacity is needed. It gets an epa-rated 16 city and 22 highway miles per gallon with all-wheel drive, or 17/24 mpg with front-wheel drive.  with the optional trailering package, it can tow up to 4,500 pounds, though we'd prefer the truck-based gmc yukon for serious towing. Enclave rates 5 stars in frontal and side crash for both front and rear occupants, and 4 in rollover, by the national highway traffic safety administration. Luxurious, practical and safe, it's an excellent vehicle.  for 2011, there are few changes. Standard on the upscale cxl-2 model are 19-inch, 9-spoke chromed aluminum wheels, while three new metallic colors have been added.  enclave shares its basic platform with the gmc acadia and chevy traverse, but they are not the same and its styling is considerably different from its siblings. lineupthe 2011 buick enclave is offered in cx and cxl trim levels, each with front-wheel drive (fwd) or all-wheel drive (awd). Enclave cxl is also available with awd 40,730).  options include a trailer towing package 455), second-row center console 300), power sunroof with second row skylight 1,400), audio system with touchscreen navigation and dvd rear seat entertainment system 3,185), wheel upgrades and paint upgrades.  safety features that come standard include dual front airbags, front side airbags, side-curtain side airbags with rollover deployment, onstar emergency communications (with turn-by-turn navigation), tire-pressure monitor, anti-lock brakes and stabilitrak electronic stability control with traction control and rollover mitigation. All-wheel drive enhances safety in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe exterior design of the buick enclave is more elegant and refined than that of the gmc acadia, which is deliberately truck-like. The enclave carries the latest buick design language. All of the front lighting elements use clear lenses, with lots of different elements to please the eye and light the road. Everything under the bumper is kept simple and clean to draw the eye to that massive grille. The standard tires are 18-inches on seven-spoke alloy wheels, with 19-inch and 20-inch wheels and tires optional, and the big wheel and tire packages certainly add to the visual punch of the enclave. The roof and the side windows are done in a gracefully decreasing sweep from front to rear, accented by bright-metal roof bars that follow the roof's curvature perfectly front to back.  out back, the top-hinged tailgate with standard power opening and closing is a work of art, with the rear glass extending beyond the sheetmetal into the rear opening. The rear glass is quite large, and is convex-shaped, coming to a point just above the buick tri-shield logo and above the wide-screen taillamps. Under the rear bumper is a diffuser panel and dual exhausts with bright tips, making for one of the tastiest rear-end treatments in the crossover segment. interiorthe cabin is what sets the buick enclave apart from other seven- and eight-passenger crossovers. Starting with the double-wave dashboard and instrument panel and going all the way back to the rear cargo floor, it's as modern as tomorrow and as functional as a swiss army knife.  the chrome-ringed white-on-black instruments and analog clock are highly styled, with a soft blue-green illumination and halo lighting at night. The graphics are large and clear, and the wood is real. On the cxl version, the steering wheel is leather and mahogany, with 10 switches and controls mounted on it for easy use. The dead pedal on the far left of the floor was specially designed for use by women wearing high-heeled shoes.  the rearview camera projects on the rearview mirror when the vehicle is not equipped with navigation. In a messy chicago winter, the camera lens became speckled with dirt and salt, making the image hard to see in the rearview mirror. The optional navigation system with a larger screen is preferable.  we also drove the enclave in sunny california, where we gave the navigation system a good test, and it proved problematic, giving us incorrect directions a number of times. It seemed the closer we were to the turn or destination, the more lost it became. A couple of times it routed us around in a big rectangle, to get onto a freeway that was right ahead of us. We should point out that navigation system updates are available, and this might solve the issue.  seven- or eight-passenger seating is available: the standard seven-passenger, 2-2-3 seating scheme uses second-row captain's chairs with a feature called smart slide that allows easy entry into the third row by flopping the seats forward and sliding them fore and aft; this can also be ordered with a second-row console for storage and 12-volt power. Or, there's a second-row bench seat for a 2-3-3 seating scheme and a total of eight occupants.  either way, the driver and front-seat passenger have power seats. The third row is usable for more than just kids; it has enough headroom for adults, and legroom is good for kids and fair for adults. Three kids will fit across, but three adults will find it tight. Only small kids will find the third row comfortable for long trips, though, because the seat bottoms sit too low to provide full thigh support.  the enclave gets high marks for storage space and flexibility. There's 23. 2 cubic feet of cargo room just inside the power tailgate behind the third row, 67. 5 cubic feet with the third-row seats down and 115. 3 cubic feet with both rows folded. Up front, the enclave has storage on top of the dash for sunglasses, ipods, and cell phones. By comparison, the awd cadillac escalade is rated at 12/18 mpg. The buick folks have taken dozens of time-consuming and expensive steps to quiet down the engine, transmission, all-wheel-drive system and tires, to isolate the front and rear suspensions and steering from the cabin and to wrap the entire package in sound-deadening materials in the floor, pillars and doors, all under the heading of quiettuning. Conversations between first-row and third-row occupants at 70-plus mph were heard and understood in normal speaking voices, and the xm satellite music played through loud and clear at reasonable vo.

Many other critics have praised Sonata's look, however, and if it's confused with any other sedan, it's more likely to be mistaken for a Lexus or some other luxury model than for another mainstream mid-size.  The 2013 Hyundai Sonata gets an updated navigation system and slight adjustments to the standard feature list, depending on the model. Sonata delivers excellent quality in all of its iterations, with great manners, fuel efficiency and features, all at a competitive price

2013 nissan sentra review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, more fuel-efficient, with sophisticated new styling. introductionthe nissan sentra is fully redesigned for 2013. Like many new vehicles in the compact sedan segment, the latest sentra is lighter and more fuel-efficient than ever before, thanks in part to a smaller engine and a new platform that manages to offer even more interior space.  styling cues on the new sentra are shared with the nissan altima midsize sedan, also new for 2013. They include led accents around the headlights and led taillights. The understated but sophisticated design makes the sentra one of the best looking compact sedans, which makes it a standout in a class whose best-sellers are about as compelling as a toaster. All variants also get a new continuously variable transmission (cvt), with a 6-speed manual available on the base s model only. All versions allow drivers to choose from three drive modes: eco, normal and sport, which change the sentra from thrifty to peppy.  to counter the reduction in power, nissan managed to strip more than 100 pounds from the newest sentra. Engineers made it lower and narrower to improve aerodynamics, which also help contribute to better fuel economy. Another fuel-saving trick is the sentra's new smart alternator, which decouples from the engine and battery during acceleration to minimize power loss (a traditional alternator typically sucks engine power under acceleration to feed the battery).  the result of these updates is an epa fuel economy rating of 30/39 mpg city/highway with the cvt, a laudable improvement from the last generation's 27/34 mpg with the old cvt. While the cvt plays a big role in fuel savings, even sentras equipped with the manual transmission are up to 27/36 mpg, compared to 24/31 mpg previously. An optional fuel economy (fe) package available on entry and mid-level trims adds additional aerodynamics and low-rolling resistance tires for a gain of one mpg on the freeway.  compact sedans like the sentra are typically appliance vehicles, practical-minded for commuting and running around town. The sentra is no exception. There's adequate power for everyday driving, and the interior is attractive, comfortable and spacious. There's a 60/40-split rear seat that folds flat, opening up the trunk space and creating a large flat cargo area that's handy for hauling long items.  nissan brags that rear legroom in the sentra is a roomy 37. 4 inches. That beats the honda civic, toyota corolla and mazda3. However, the sentra's low roofline takes its toll on rear headroom, which measures at 36. 7 inches. When it comes to looks and spaciousness, the sentra is one of the best. But the price can add up fast. The navigation package 650) adds a 5. 8-inch color touchscreen with navigation, the nissanconnect interface, bluetooth streaming audio, real-time traffic and weather capability, and a handsfree text messaging assistant that reads text messages out loud. The premium package 1,200) includes an eight-speaker bose premium audio system, auto-dimming rearview mirror and power sunroof. Standalone options include fog lights 310) and a rear decklid spoiler 295).  a fuel economy (fe) package 400) is available on s and sv trims and includes a rear spoiler, additional underbody aerodynamic enhancements, and low-rolling resistance tires for less drag and improved fuel economy. The sr driver package 1,080) adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, pushbutton start, a six-speaker audio system with 4. 3-inch display screen, satellite radio capability, bluetooth handsfree phone connectivity, automatic headlights, and rear disc brakes. As with the sv, the navigation and premium packages are also available.  sentra sl 19,760) upgrades to premium cloth upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, chrome accents on gauges, wood-tone interior trim and everything found on the sv driver package. Options include the navigation and premium packages, plus a leather package 1,030), which includes leather upholstery, heated front seats and rear disc brakes.  safety equipment on all models include includes dual-stage front airbags, front side airbags, roof-mounted side curtain airbags, antilock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), vehicle dynamic control (vdc) and traction control. walkaroundnissan sentra is larger than the subcompact versa and smaller than the midsize altima. The 2013 sentra is 2. 3 inches longer than the outgoing model and 0. 6 inches lower, which makes the sentra look roomy from the outside, even though it's 1. 2 inches narrower. The new design has decreased drag to help with the improved fuel economy.  certain styling cues are shared with the handsome, all-new midsize altima. The front grille, with its angular corners, inwardly curved sides and horizontal grille lines, convey the family resemblance. Led accent lights around the headlamps add a contemporary and sophisticated touch. Headlights wrap around slightly without looking too extreme.  from the side, the altima looks clean, with a high belt line, curvaceous nose and softly angled rear. A bold, high character line gently sweeps around the front fender, then continues straight across into the rear led wraparound tail lamps. Standard 16-inch wheels are steel with covers; we prefer the 17-inch alloys on the sl. The 17-inch sport alloys on the sr, on the other hand, look overdone and resemble mutant arachnids.  in the rear, led tail lights echo the angular shapes found elsewhere on the sentra. A deep cutline around the hood makes the rear bumper prominent, even bulbous. Sentras fitted with the optional fe package have a rear decklid spoiler, which is sporty but understated. interiorinside, the sentra continues its clean, sophisticated styling. The instrument cluster is large, clear, and easy to read, with an attractive white-on-black color scheme. The steering wheel is comfortable in hand, although its myriad buttons on sv models and above can feel oddly placed and take some getting used to.  on the center stack, climate control buttons and knobs are intuitive. Standard audio controls are simple. The optional 4. 3-inch display on the driver package is large and easy to read, but without navigation or a backup camera, all that screen space seems wasted. The top-end sl model gets features found normally on larger, more expensive cars, like dual-zone automatic climate control and wood trim. We question whether they will be durable long-term. To avoid the fabric armrests, one must choose the sl and upgrade to the leather package. The optional leather upholstery is nice but nothing special, and it does bump up the price.  space in the sentra is perhaps one of its most compelling attributes. Front legroom is a roomy 42. 5 inches, which is enough to accommodate tall drivers, but still can accommodate petite people without them feeling swallowed up. Nissan brags that rear legroom in the sentra is a roomy 37. 4 inches. That beats the honda civic, toyota corolla and mazda3. However, the sentra's low roofline takes. 2013 toyota prius review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The king of hybrids retains its crown. introductionstill one of the most popular hybrid vehicles on the market, the toyota prius comes in prius liftback hybrid and prius plug-in hybrid versions.  both the liftback and the plug-in use toyota's hybrid synergy drive powertrain, which pairs a 1. 8-liter gasoline engine along with an electric motor. The regular prius liftback uses nickel metal hydride (nimh) batteries and operates like a traditional hybrid.  the prius plug-in hybrid employs newly developed lithium ion (li-ion) batteries and can be plugged in like an electric car to extend its range. The prius plug-in hybrid will allow true electric-vehicle operation for up to 15 miles at speeds up to 62 mph, according to toyota, along with quick home charging using a standard ac outlet and 15-amp dedicated circuit. The prius liftback gets an epa-rated 51/48 mpg city/highway, and a combined rating of 50 mpg. It runs on regular gasoline.  the prius plug-in hybrid is rated 51/49 mpg city/highway, or 50 mpg combined. Because it also runs on electricity, the environmental protection agency gives it a special rating of 95 miles per gallon equivalent (mpge). Fuel cost estimates for the plug-in hybrid are about $1,000 a year for the prius plug-in, compared to $1,150 for the traditional prius hybrid.  now in its third generation, more than 1 million units of the prius hybrid have been sold in the united states since the first debuted in 2000 as a 2001 model. The prius was redesigned for 2010, and the plug-in hybrid debuted for the 2012 model year.  new for 2013 is the prius persona series special edition. It is available with the traditional prius liftback hybrid powertrain and comes with unique charcoal and black softex synthetic leather upholstery with red stitching, dark chrome interior accents and 17-inch alloy wheels.  while fuel economy is remarkable, acceleration performance from the prius is far from it: 0 to 60 mph in an excruciating 9. 8 seconds. On the bright side, the continuously variable transmission (cvt), is smooth, a quality not always found in this type of transmission.  prius comes loaded with technology. Front seats are roomy, though some may find the upright seating position a bit uncomfortable. In the back, there's am adequate 36 inches of legroom. The epa classifies these cars as midsize, but we see them as large compacts.  cargo space is generous with nearly 40 cubic feet of capacity when the back seats are dropped flat, and the big liftgate makes loading easy.  while the prius used to dominate the hybrid market, other alternative fuel vehicles have sprung up in recent years to give toyota's darling a run for its money. The new ford c-max, available as both a hybrid and a plug-in, boasts a fresher design and sharper driving dynamics. The chevrolet volt plug-in feels more sophisticated and more upscale than the prius does. Shoppers might also consider the sleek ford fusion hybrid and plug-in sedans, as well as the toyota camry hybrid. Options include deluxe solar roof package with hdd premium navigation with entune and head up display.  prius five 30,005) upgrades to 17-inch alloy wheels with p214/45r17 tires, led headlights with headlight cleaners, and integrated fog lights. An advanced technology package includes hdd premium navigation with entune and head up display.  prius plug-in hybrid 39,525) is equipped like prius two with its fabric-trimmed front seats, but comes standard with navigation and entune. The prius plug-in hybrid uses 15-inch tires and alloy wheels.  prius plug-in hybrid advanced 39,525) upgrades with the softex upholstery, premium hdd navigation, homelink, head up display, dynamic radar cruise control, led headlights, integrated fog lights.  safety equipment standard on all models includes dual-stage front airbags, side airbags in front, airbag curtains for front and rear seats, and driver's knee airbag; active headrests; latch anchors for child-safety seats, child-protector rear door locks, front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters (the most important piece of equipment so be sure to wear them), alr/elr; federally mandated tire pressure monitor with warning light; anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution; enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control, smart stop technology. Optional safety equipment includes pre-collision system that uses the same radar antenna as the radar cruise control. It applies the brakes harder than the driver does if a collision is imminent and applies them even if the driver doesn't, to reduce collision impact. Lane keep assist is available for prius five. walkaroundlove it or hate it, the tall, wedge shape of the prius has made it one of the most distinguishable cars on the road. The blue-tinted headlights are elegant wraparound trapezoids, with optional led lenses consuming 17-percent less battery power. There's a styling tweak, like a wave or a lip or, with a stretch of the imagination, a lightning bolt at the top, and it works, to deliver distinction. The taillights are standard led, reducing power draw by 88 percent.  the rear wiper is huge, and effective in keeping rain off all that glass back there. Still, the quality and finish of some interior materials don't quite measure up. Prius uses a floating console design, which looks awkward to some but makes it ergonomically friendly. Inconveniently, the seat-heater button is located on the floor under the console.  the front seats are comfortable with good bolstering and adjustability. The trim is made of plant-derived resin, which, toyota says, is highly recyclable. The upper and lower gloveboxes hold a magnificent 12 liters.  the rear seats offer 36 inches of legroom, which is adequate for this size of a vehicle. The rear seats have a folding center armrest with two cupholders.  when the rear seats, split 60/40, are dropped flat, there's 39. 6 cubic feet of cargo volume, easily accessible through the big liftgate. We hauled seven 16-inch wheels shod with dunlop racing tires in the back. The eighth had to ride in the front seat, but we were impressed with the cargo capacity.  there's another 2 cubic feet of space in a tray under the floor of the cargo area for tools and laptops.
